Public and Private Chats
Why different settings?
At times, you might want to make things as smooth and easy as possible. At other times, you need to keep information private. The choice is yours.
What is a public chat?
A public chat is a chat that can be accessed by everybody who has the link. This is like an unlisted video on Youtube for example.
Chat links are structured in a way, that they can't be guessed or found out.
- Advantage: easy to join.
- Disadvantage: links can be shared inappropriately.
Please note: in the free plan, public chats are indexed on Google. Consider subscribing to prevent indexing.
What is a private chat?
A private chat requires participants to log in. This can happen through an account on eggheads or using your Microsoft account (SSO).
- Advantage: protection of sensitive content, not indexed on Google
- Disadvantage: more friction as users need to log in
Please note: when you want to track participants, a chat needs to be set to private. Learn more about the Individual Performance Report.
How to set a chat public or private?
Select the appropriate option when you create or edit a chat.
Please note: in the free plan, chats are always set public. To password-protect your chats, please consider a subscription.
